It’s no secret that a trip to me is not complete without a solid portion of interior shopping. I just love browsing around for design goodies and deco items. Looking for your dose of interior inspo in Ghent? Then you should definitely add these five stops to the list.

1/ Piet Moodshop

This store full of cool gadgets can be found on two locations in the center of Ghent. At the store in the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat you can shop for interior decoration, stationery and gifts. The building, a former drugstore, is worth a visit in itself as everything is on display on the shelves of old pharmacy cupboards. Verrry Instagram worthy! Piet Moodshop number two is located on the Hippoliet Lippensplein in a sleek industrial building. Here you've come to the right place for office gadgets, lifestyle and urban necessities. Think interior goodies from HAY and Muller Van Severen, pens and pencils from Caran d’Ache and cards from Kaart Blanche. Looking for unique pieces with a fun twist? Piet Moodshop is your place to be.

2/ YD Nordic House

YD Nordic House, a.k.a. Scandinavian heaven, is located in the Belfortstraat. The store has three floors filled with nordic brands like MUUTO, Normann Copenhagen and Kay Bojesen and is a dream for lovers of Scandinavian design. In addition to the furniture and deco items, you’ll also find a nice selection of children's items at YD Nordic House. Getting hungry? Order smørrebrød for lunch at the Kafé or celebrate Fika time with cinnamon buns and chocolate cake. Under the slogan ‘Live Nordic, Eat Nordic, Work Nordic’ you can even rent a flex desk at YD Nordic House. It doesn't get more ‘hygge’ than this!

3/ Lux Lightstore

‘Let there be light!’, that's what they must have thought at Lux Lightstore. This trendy lighting specialist store recently moved to trendy Onderbergen and is a must for all design lovers out there. Admittedly, a lightstore does not sound very sexy, but you need to just trust me on this one. In addition to high-quality lighting fixtures and co, you’ll find a wonderful series of design classics like Lampe Gras side by side with the work of new and upcoming designers. From time to time the Lux team also highlights a local designer in the pop-up corner, like they recently did with the handmade accessories and carpets from designer Roos Vandekerckhove. And what’s even better: at Lux you can put together your own lamp, completely from lampshade to fitting and textile thread. If you don't find it here, you won't find it anywhere!

4/ Koperhuis

A handpicked selection of lifestyle and interior design items from the finest and emerging designers? Koperhuis is your go-to spot. Just a little warning before we dig into their collection any deeper: stepping inside this store will make you want to redecorate a.s.a.p. Both in the store and on the webshop owners Evelien and Koen curate a unique and innovative range of furniture, lighting and accessories. In addition to exclusive collections of established brands like Gubi, Woud and Zuiver, you’ll also discover a few upcoming designers at Koperhuis. Is all that shopping making you thirsty? Then you can have a drink at the bar inside the store. Cheers!

5/ Huiszwaluw

This gorgeous interior design store celebrates its 11th birthday already! The collections sold at Huiszwaluw are characterized by the quirky approach and original brand choice of the owner. Each and every room in the three-storey shop is decorated in such a cosy and personal way that it feels like you're wandering through someone’s home. A selection of special plants (also for sale) completes the picture. The brands sold at Huiszwaluw include Ferm Living, Menu, Fest Amsterdam, Woud and Studio HENK. What’s not to love?
