The Strangers Club Cape Town

Gorgeous design, delicious coffee and the very best smoothie bowls? The Strangers Club in Cape Town is your place to be. This coffee bar meets concept store is located in Green Point, but feels like you’re in another world. Up on the wall is the quote ‘not all those who are lost’ and we can only fully agree on that!

Founded by young entrepreneurs Emma Vith and Adam Reilly, The Strangers Club has been inspired by a club that existed in the early 1900’s in La Paz and Panama. It was a space where traders and explorers heading to and from Central and South America could gather to exchange stories and relive memories. Today The Strangers Club is the place to be for tourists and locals who are looking for a little slice of heaven in the middle of buzzing Cape Town.

The Strangers Club is hidden in a cozy garden where the sun shines blissfully through the treetops. Pick a spot on a bench in the garden or install yourself - with or without a laptop - at one of the long tables and be prepared to stay way longer than you we’re planning to. The coffee at The Strangers Club is delicious and by the local - and award-winning - Rosetta Roastery. Also on the menu? Well-filled sandwiches, tasty salads and the very best smoothie bowls in town. A must for all healthy foodies out there!

Behind The Strangers Club Café is The Strangers Club Retail, a concept store with a great selection of local brands. Cool embroidered t-shirts by Five O’Clock, beautiful earrings by Lorne, the absolute cutest pet collars by Chommies and so much more. Please make a mental note on this one because it’s the go-to spot to find an original keepsake from Cape Town for ladies, gents and little ones.

More shopping options? Be sure to check out Out Of This World. This art gallery showcases a great selection of African art, fabrics and jewellery and is located in the same building as The Strangers Club. Out Of This World has been around since 1972 and also has stores in Camps Bay and V&A Waterfront. But be sure to stop by the Green Point one because that’s where you will find the largest collection. Moreover, the combination of The Strangers Club and Out Of This World makes the beautiful old house in which they’re located the place where both modern and authentic South Africa meet.

Nice to know: outside The Strangers Club is Local Knowledge, which offers fun tours and activities in and around Cape Town. Their goal? Showing you the city through the eyes of a local. We didn't tour with Local Knowledge yet, but the reviews look amazing. A great tip if you like to get some extra guidance when visiting Cape Town for the very first time.
